All wines are hand selected from a variety of vineyards throughout the Yadkin Valley wine region and each are thoughtfully paired with food. We want you to enjoy the next generation of big, bold and surprising wines being produced in the Carolina’s.These tours are different from other North Carolina winery tours. This is the UNsweet Wine Tour. We are inviting you to taste the spectrum of Carolina wines from Viognier, Chardonnay, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Merlot, Petit Verdot and more.
Each tour will be guided by a knowledgeable NC Wine Gal & in some cases, will be accompanied by Harry, our resident wine dachshund.
Wine tours are every Friday and Sunday. Special dates and tours are available by request.
The tours typically run all day from 9:30 am (Fridays) and 10:00 am (Sundays) to about 6:00/6:30 pm. Tours are very social and consist of 6 – 12 wine wanderers.
Pick-up is from Assorted Table Wine Shoppe @ 7th Street Market in Uptown Charlotte unless otherwise noted.
How is this tour different? Most tours essentially chauffeur you around wine country stopping at a number of vineyards. You pay for the transportation and maybe a picnic lunch but none of the tastings. We are different as we want to show off North Carolina’s amazing culinary prowess along side its wine. We selected our vineyards for their amazing quality and hand picked 1-2 bottles from each estate to sample along with perfect local foods.
What kinds of wine will I try? North Carolina’s wine industry is very prolific in the types of grapes being grown. You can try floral and fruity whites like Vioginer and Traminette to classics like Riesling and Chardonnay. Many vineyards have rosés from a variety of grapes like Petit Verdot and Sangiovese. In the red category, you can go from light to big and bold like Chambourcin, Merlot, Cabernet, Malbec & Nero D’Avola.
One thing we will not have on our tours are Muscadine and Scuppernog aka the SWEET wines.
How old must I be to go on this tour? You must be 21 or older. Valid ID will be required or your tour will be forfeited.
How much wine are we consuming? Each tour is different but we estimate 6+ glasses including a full tasting at the last vineyard of the day.
What if I don’t like red wine? We have a tour option that is not heavily red dependent.
Do you have to only drink what is provided on the tour? Absolutely not. While we include over 6 glasses of wine & a full tasting at the last vineyard, you are welcome to seek out more wine as long as it falls within our length of stay. You are also encouraged to buy any bottles you like, as many only sell their wines at the vineyard.
What are we eating on this tour? Will I be hungry when we finish? Each tour is different in terms of the food pairings but some ideas of what we serve are local meats and cheeses, Italian beef & turkey meatballs in a tomato wine sauce with bread, a pulled pork BBQ sandwich, brownies and chocolate chip cookies.
What if I am a vegetarian? Honestly, this wine tour is better suited to carnivores but we will have several vegetarian options. We will try and accommodate you to the best of our ability. Please contact us directly if you have any special dietary restrictions that would hinder your fun.
What if I don’t eat beef or pork? Please let us know if you have a dietary restriction. We are able to substitute chicken or turkey in place of some of our food pairings.
How long are we staying at each vineyard? We are estimating a stay of 60 minutes at each vineyard.
What is the cancellation policy? No refunds are given within 72 hours of the wine tour date. We will allow you to reschedule to a future Carolina Food & Wine Tour date.
