We prefer small 8-12 person trips to the massive 50+ bus tours you see all over. Smaller numbers means we can be more flexible in our itineraries and deviate from the plan when it suits us. Plus it’s just the right amount of people to form some great friendships.
Big Fat World Tours is owned and operated by Megan Riley who has been to 50 countries and counting and lived overseas in Poland, France, Japan and Turkey.
I am a successful travel blogger, thebigfatworld, where is where I got the name for the company) and often pen articles about my crazy adventures. It was after a 6 week trip to India alone (unintentionally) that I wanted to bring the world to more off-the beaten track countries.
My mission is to to create a stress-free travel experience for people who love to travel but don’t have the time or country knowledge to plan an amazing adventure or are just tired of going alone.
Yes, 3-4 weeks before every trip, we will hold an orientation. Depending on geographies this orientation may happen over skype. This is the perfect time to ask questions and let our trip guides know about any special instructions you may have for the trip such as medical issues or things you wish to do that are not on the itinerary. We try to be as flexible as we can in these requests.
Big Fat World Tours doesn’t book flights because many of our wanderers prefer to book their own flights using their frequent flier miles or other cost saving measures. We do, however, make some suggestions on how to book the best cost flight to each destination. That information will be provided in an email once you register for a trip.
In some cases we have been known to book flights for our wanderers. Just inquire if this is something you want us to do for you.
Our trips are focused on solo and young couple wanderers in their 30s, 40s, and 50s.
Yes, we realize that all of our trips do not line up with your schedule so we are happy to take one of our current itineraries and cater it for you and your group. Please contact us for more information.

Visas are not required for most countries including Iceland, Portugal, Croatia or France.
A visa is required for Nepal and can be purchased at the Kathmandu airport. The cost is $25 (15 days) or $40 (30 days) and can be purchased on arrival. Visas must be paid in an approved currency such as USD or Euros.
The Kathmandu airport has visa kiosks and these speed up the process tremendously unless you land after several other flights and the visa line could be 60 minutes or more.
You can also go and print out the visa application before you leave the US and bring a passport photo and skip this line altogether.
