Our NC vineyard food & wine tour highlights some of the North Carolina’s best vineyards from its Italian inspired wine to its Bordeaux ones. The spectrum of wine you will try (and love) will be astounding. Get ready to make room in wine collection for Carolina wine.
Tasting #1 – We kick off the tour at Assorted Table Wine Shoppe in the 7th Street Market (Uptown Charlotte) with this seemingly unusual pairing, a glazed Krispy Kreme doughnut with Shelton Riesling. This pairing on the surface seems bizarre but the Riesling does a good job of bringing out the vanilla in the doughnut and the doughnut cuts down on the sweetness of the Riesling. Trust us – it’s a match made in wine heaven!
Vineyard #1- Piccione Vineyards – Known for their Italian style wines, this cute on a hill vineyard has one bottle that particularity stands out for us, their amazing Provence style rosé made from Montepulciano grapes. We are pairing this with creamy goat cheese & crackers.
Vineyard #2 – Raffaldini Vineyards – This is perhaps one of the Carolina’s prettiest vineyards, Raffaldini. Raffaldini makes excellent Italian wines and have been doing so for a couple decades. We will enjoy their Bella Misto that goes divinely with meatballs in a red wine sauce (plus bread to sop up the goodness).
Vineyard #3 – McRitchie Vineyards – This little known vineyard is doing some interesting and tasty wines. Their portfolio ranges from Traminette, Muscat Blanc to sparkling Roses and Port. We are digging into some Carolina pulled pork BBQ and a fun pairing of their Merlot/Sangiovese red blend called Ring of Fire.
Vineyard # 4 – Surprise – We like to keep our final vineyard a surprise so you can delight in a full wine tasting. While most of the tour we focused on 1 or 2 varietals per vineyard, we want you to taste the full spectrum of wines that the Carolina’s are producing. You will do a full estate tasting of their wines.

What wines will I try on the Queen City Food & Wine Tour? This tour will feature big Carolina reds focusing mainly on French & Italian varietals such as Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Petit Verdot, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon & Malbec. We will also have a dry rosé & Riesling.
Why is the tour so expensive? You get a lot with this tour. We start you off with a wine & breakfast pairing before you get on our comfy van. Your driver/guide is a NC Wine Gal who has done extensive research in Yadkin Valley to find the absolutely best bottles of wine at each vineyard.
You visit 4 vineyards where you have 1-2 glasses of wine at each plus home cooked meals like pulled pork BBQ sandwiches, Italian meatballs, brownies and we finish at a vineyard for their amazing reserve tasting of estate wines. Many others who go to the Yadkin Valley only offer you a ride & you’ll pay almost $100 for that.
Where do we meet the tour? Unless otherwise stated, we meet at Assorted Table Wine Shoppe (towards the back) inside the 7th Street Market in Uptown Charlotte. Deck parking is $5 on Sunday and we also recommend taking the light rail to the 7th Street station. Look for our guide in the Charlotte shirt.
What time do we meet? We meet at 9:30 am on Fridays and 10 am on Sundays.
How large are the groups? We take 6 -12 people on our tours.
How much wine are we consuming? We buy several bottles of wine at each vineyard. This breaks down to 5+ full glasses of wine per person plus you will have an estate tasting at the final vineyard.
What if I don’t like red wine? This particular tour is going to skew heavily red, while we do have a couple non-reds on the itinerary, 80% of the wine will be in the red category. If you want to go on this tour but are not a fan of red wine, please reach out directly. Many times we can make concessions for you and substitute some whites in place of the reds. many vineyards also offer non-wine options such as cider & beer.
Just note that the food pairings are made for the red varietals and may not compliment the white substitutes.
Also check out our Classic White Food & Wine Tour, it’s 5 vineyards making amazing white wines.
Do you have to only drink what is provided on the tour? Absolutely not. While we include over 6 glasses of wine & a full tasting at the last vineyard, you are welcome to seek out more wine as long as it falls within our length of stay. You are also encouraged to buy any bottles you like, as many only sell their wines at the vineyard.
What are we eating on this tour? Will I be hungry when we finish? Our goal is to feed you well during this tour. We have food pairings at each vineyard and will have snacks during our drive. The daily menu consists of local goat cheese & crackers, Italian beef & turkey meatballs in a tomato wine sauce with bread, a pulled pork BBQ sandwich, brownies and chocolate chip cookies.
What if I am a vegetarian? Honestly, this wine tour is better suited to carnivores but we will have several vegetarian options. We will try and accommodate you to the best of our ability. Please contact us directly if you have any special dietary restrictions that would hinder your fun.
What if I don’t eat beef or pork? Please let us know if you have a dietary restriction. We are able to substitute chicken or turkey in place of some of our food pairings.
How long are we staying at each vineyard? We are estimating a stay of 60 minutes at each vineyard.
What is the cancellation policy? No refunds are given within 72 hours of the wine tour date. We will allow you to reschedule to a future NC vineyard food & wine tour date.
What other winery tours do you offer? In addition to our NC wine tours, we also lead food & wine trips to Croatia.
